NJHS - SEPTEMBER
The members of the National Junior Honor Society are already getting busy during our brand new school year. The election for the NJHS officers was held on August 31st, and the winners are as follows: Marlena Sweiss, President; Taressa Latino, Vice-President; Bridget Regan, Secretary; and Maggie Ward, Treasurer. All of the officers will participate in a brief swearing-in ceremony during our All-School Mass on September 14th. I have all the confidence in the world that these girls will make wonderful officers.
The 6th grade students have been given all of the information for NJHS membership (including a membership petition), and it is each student's responsibility to follow through with the required steps. 7th grade students who did not become members last year may also apply for membership, as well as 8th grade students who are new to St. Linus this school year.
The students need to earn twenty-four service hours before Easter Vacation, and many have been busy working around our building already. We also have many students who offered their time during St. Linus's Vacation Bible School and Summer Camp, and their service hours are almost complete for the year! Also, on October 2nd and 3rd, many of our 8th grade NJHS members will be volunteering at the Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes which is being held at Moraine Valley Community College.
Please contact the NJHS moderators, Kelly Johnson or Katelynn Krahn, if you become aware of a service opportunity which may be suited to our students.
Finally, our NJHS members will have the privilege of attending a Chicago Wolves' hockey game in January...something special for these hard-working students!
