May 3rd ~ 7th, 2010

Last week's field trip was so much fun! Barraco's was very nice and the kids had a lot of fun, the pizza was delicious too :) I can't believe this is the last month for Kindergarten!! It is a busy month, so here is a look at this month and some reminders for the remainder of the year...

This week...
Monday
We started letters Xx and Yy in Reading. The story was sent home, "The Big, Big, Box." Please review it with your child, it is a long one!
Kindergarten Picnic and T-Shirt money was due today! If you forgot, don't worry please send it in by Tuesday...thanks!

Tuesday
Scholastic Book Orders are being sent home. This will be the last one of the year, you may want to consider getting some books for Summer reading!
They will be due back on Friday, in order to assure they are delivered before we are out of school. Remember, you can still order online too!
HW: Letter Xx/Yy printing page.

Wednesday
In Math we will be finishing up our Chapter in Subtraction this week. Throughout the end of the year I will continue to work with the students on both addition and subtraction. They are all doing very well, but extra practice will help them a ton in first grade!

Thursday
Q and U Wedding! I hope to see everyone if you can make it. The ceremony starts promptly at 11:00am. It should only last about 15 to 30 minutes. We are busy with the preparations this week, and we are all very excited! Your child should come dressed up with a gift for Mr. and Mrs. Qu. (It should start with qu and it will be returned on Friday)
Check out the blog for a slideshow of the event!

Friday
Library ~ Mrs. Conn has asked that each child bring in a flower. The students will be learning about the different parts of a flower. They can bring in a real flower, a fake flower, a picture of a flower, or even a drawing.
HW: Riddle of the Week. This will be our last riddle for the remainder of the year!!
Rest towels coming home. You do not need to send rest towels for the rest of the year. Now that we are "almost first graders" we will no longer be having rest time.

Have a GREAT weekend and Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms! I hope your Sunday is extra special :)
If you have any questions, let me know.

Week of May 10th to May 14th

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day and enjoyed the gifts from your child. I love hearing all the answers on the poems :)
Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Revis' room for holding a great reception after our Q and U wedding! The room was decorated so nice and the class had a great time dancing!!
I just realized this week that the post of our May class tree picture never showed up on the blog! So, I will repost it again tonight and hope it works!
Here is a look at the rest of our week...

Wednesday
Today we read our last story, "The Big Dragon." I am so happy with everyone's progress in Reading, they have grown so much from the beginning of the year! I will definitely be sad to see all of them go, but they are ready for first grade!
Today was Ms. Holly's (our Marist Helper) last day. The children were very sad to see her go. I will post a picture of Ms. Holly with the class later today!

We are also taking small quizzes on both addition and subtraction. These will help prepare the students for first grade.

Thursday
Computers and Art! We are also practicing for our Kindergarten Graduation. I have started teaching the kids the songs and they are sounding great. I will also start testing on our letters and on reading for the end of the year. I am VERY happy to say that I asked each child individually to count to 100 and every single student could do it! We were all so proud of each other.

Friday
Library ~ we did not check books out last week, but if you have a book at home still, please send it in.
We will have a spelling test today!
In Art we are working on a special Kindergarten Memory Book!

Just a reminder, if you have not sent in your $5.00 for the Kindergarten picnic, please do so. The supplies need to be ordered very soon...thank you!

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Graduation Parts

Today or tomorrow, some of the children will be bringing home reading parts for Kindergarten graduation. Yesterday I asked each child individually if they would like a speaking part or to hold something during the Graduation. So, if your child does not have a speaking part, they chose not to. If your child does have a speaking part, they wanted to speak, so please practice their part with them....thank you in advance!! Any questions, please let me know!
