Our Class Tree

Due to the weather our first class tree picture has been postponed until tomorrow. It is supposed to be a beautiful day!!

September 7th ~ 10th

What a beautiful weekend this was! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, I know Matthew and Buster did! Thank you for working so hard on his journal, it really looked like you guys had a blast!! Buster is one lucky dog ;)
Thank you to the Ryan and Rosales Family for providing snack last week and this week! The kids are enjoying the variety!
Here is our September picture with our class tree. Here are the observations that the class made: the tree has leaves and they are green, the tree is very big, and the tree has a big trunk. We can't wait to see how it changes in October!

Here is a look at our week...

Tuesday
Library ~ your child brought home a library book today, they are due back next tuesday. If your child forgets, that is o.k., but they will not be able to check out a new one until it is returned.
Our Artist of the Week is Marty! I hope everyone enjoyed his artwork on the newsletter.
This week in reading we started the letter Oo. We only learn the short vowel sound, as in octupus.
For homework the Oo picture page is assigned and due back tomorrow. I was so happy with last week's homework. The pictures were great and all the students did a good job presenting them to the class.
This week our word of the week is: I (I like school)
Our Fancy Word of the Week is: outrageous

Wednesday
Picture Day!! Students are to dress up today. Remember to send your child's picture money in their folder!
Virgin Mary's Birthday ~ please remember to send in a flower tomorrow to help celebrate. We will also be enjoying a special birthday treat I have prepared! Check out the blog for pictures :)

Thursday
Homework: Riddle of the Week, this is due on Friday. The riddle that is sent home is a riddle that we have already done in class, so your child should be able to tell you the answer, but you will probably need to help them print it.

Friday

Buster will be going home with Kate!

September 13th ~ 17th

I hope everyone enjoyed thier weekend! I heard all about the fun time a lot of the students had at Fall on the Green, and what perfect weather you had!

Here is a look at our week...
Monday
Grace C. is our Artist of the Week!
Thank you to the Moran family for taking such great care of Buster! Everyone loved all the pictures!
We are still working on letter Oo this week. At the end of this week on Friday the letter evaluation will be going home again. If it is marked that your child mastered the letter, that is great, but you still may want to review with him/her. If your child has not mastered the letter, please practice with them at home. Overall, the class is doing very well so far! They are listening and following directions! I tell everyone what a great bunch I have this year!

Tuesday
Library books are due back.
All School Mass, 8:30am.

Wednesday
In Math this week we are going to be finishing up working on our color words. I will be testing the students on their color words this week. A "pre-test" will be going home either this week or next with your child's results. We practice them everyday at circle time by playing a game and our Marist Helper, Rachel, has also been working with students who need some extra help memorizing them.

Thursday
Homework: Riddle of the Week
My after school class starts today. On the days that I have an after school class, Mrs. Revis will walk out the remaining children in my class.

Friday
11:25 Dismissal! For those of you attending the All School Reunion, take a minute to stop by and look at the Kindergarten hallway! It is filled with your child's projects!

September 20th ~ 24th

It is our Apple Unit this week!! One of my favorite times of the year! We are preparing for Fall (even though I hear it's supposed to be in the upper 80s tomorrow!) and I love doing all of the fun apple activities this week.
Our Star of the Week is Sean!
Our Artist of the Week is Makayla! I hope everyone enjoyed her beautiful artwork on the newsletter.
I would like to give a big thank you to all the parents who have brought snack in so far! You all have done a great job and the kids are enjoying them.
Also, a big thank you for all the families who have had Buster so far, what a great way to start our his visits! Your journal entries have been excellent! Buster and Ethan are counting down the days until Friday, when the Green family will enjoy Buster all weekend.

This week is spirit week to help get us ready for the St. Linus Homecoming this weekend! As soon as I hear of any special days going on this week, I will let you know! You may want to keep checking the blog, as I will post any updates I receive. Gooo Hawks!

Here is a look at our week...
Monday
Our letter we are learning this week is letter Gg. Homework: letter g picture page. When doing the homework, please remember that we only learn the g sound heard in great, goat, girl, green, etc.. We do not learn the g sound heard in giraffe.
Today we started out our Apple Unit with our apple tasting! We tasted three different types of apples: red delicious, granny smith, and golden delicious. After trying all three the students picked their favorite and we graphed the results. Granny Smith was the class favorite with nine!
Today the color words pre-test was sent home. The pre-test was ONLY sent home if your child did not get 100%. If you did not receive a pre-test your child receieved a 100% on the pre-test.

Tuesday
Library books are due back.

Wednesday
Today for the apple unit we will be learning all about Johnny Appleseed! His birthday is Sunday.

Thursday
I will be doing an art activity with the class using apple prints!

Friday
Today in my class we will be making applesauce! A "picture" recipe will be posted, just in case you would like to try to make it at home.
All apple papers will be sent home.
Homecoming Pep Rally in the afternoon!

St. Linus Spirit Week

Wednesday:
Sports Day! Wear your faovirte sports team (professional, college or high school) apparel.
Ice Cream Day ~ Please have your child bring in $1.00 in an envelope if you would like your child to purchase ice cream during lunch. Please place the envelope in your child's folder.
Candy Raffle Raffle tickets are $0.25 each. Students are to guess how much candy is in the jar. the winner will receive the jar of candy and a class dress down day. The winner will be announced at the pep rally on Friday.

Thursday:
Pajama Day
Students are allowed to wear their pajamas to school. Please have your child wear their gym shoes, as we have gym this day.

Friday
Show your hawk pride!! Students are allowed to wear their St. Linus sports apparel. (soccer, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading or football. If you do not have a sports jersey, students are allowed to wear blue, gold, or white. Appropriate shorts or pants are allowed, gym shoes may be worn.

Week of September 27th ~ October 1st

What a great time we had last week during our apple unit! We were sad to see it go, but I hope you enjoyed ALL of the apple activities and projects that came home on Friday, your children were working very hard! You might want to ask them about the different parts of an apple, the different kinds of apples, and also you can ask them why we celebrate Johnny Appleseed's Birthday. The yummy applesauce that we made on Friday was a success! Good Job to all the little chefs in my room.
I hope you had a fun weekend, I know Ethan and Buster did :) Buster and George are very excited for Friday to come!!
Congratulations to Sara C. ~ she is our Star of the Week!
I hope everyone enjoyed Luke's artwork in my newsletter. He told me he it was of his family!

Here is a look at the rest of our week...

Tuesday
We are continuing on with letter Gg, which we will finish up this week. Everyone is doing a great job so far! Continue to review the letters and letter sounds with your child at home, it makes a big difference!
Letter Gg printing page was due back.
In Math we started working on patterns yesterday. Everyone caught on quickly, and we have had a fun time making patterns out of different things.
Library Books were due back today.

Wednesday
In reading today, I will be introducing the students to g as an ending sound. (for example dog) We will also start blending 2 letters together to make 1 sound (oc, og). This is the first step in having your child start to read. It is very important that your child is confident with the letters we have learned so far in order to start blending, so the more practice the better :)

Thursday
In Religion we are learning about how God created the world. We will be finishing up pictures that show how gorgeous the world really is, they will be outside in the hall for you to see.

Friday
Today, for morning work we will begin writing in our journals. Every Friday from now on, the students will copy the date from the board and print a sentence. They they are to draw a picture above. For the first couple months, usually until after Christmas break, we write a sentence together as a class for them to copy from the board. Then, after Christmas break, they are on their own and can write about anything they would like. It doesn't matter if it is spelled correctly, just as long as they try to write their own sentence. Over the weeks it is very exciting to see the growth in the child's printing. These will be shared at parent/teacher conferences, and then sent home at the end of the year for a keepsake.
Progress reports will be sent home. On the progress report you will see your child's results on his/her color word test. Also, a letter test is attached that we completed on Monday. Your child was given a letter and he/she needed to print both upper and lower case letter. Please review these with your child.
Rest Towels are coming home, please remember to send these back on Monday.
