Week of September 27th ~ October 1st

What a great time we had last week during our apple unit! We were sad to see it go, but I hope you enjoyed ALL of the apple activities and projects that came home on Friday, your children were working very hard! You might want to ask them about the different parts of an apple, the different kinds of apples, and also you can ask them why we celebrate Johnny Appleseed's Birthday. The yummy applesauce that we made on Friday was a success! Good Job to all the little chefs in my room.
I hope you had a fun weekend, I know Ethan and Buster did :) Buster and George are very excited for Friday to come!!
Congratulations to Sara C. ~ she is our Star of the Week!
I hope everyone enjoyed Luke's artwork in my newsletter. He told me he it was of his family!

Here is a look at the rest of our week...

Tuesday
We are continuing on with letter Gg, which we will finish up this week. Everyone is doing a great job so far! Continue to review the letters and letter sounds with your child at home, it makes a big difference!
Letter Gg printing page was due back.
In Math we started working on patterns yesterday. Everyone caught on quickly, and we have had a fun time making patterns out of different things.
Library Books were due back today.

Wednesday
In reading today, I will be introducing the students to g as an ending sound. (for example dog) We will also start blending 2 letters together to make 1 sound (oc, og). This is the first step in having your child start to read. It is very important that your child is confident with the letters we have learned so far in order to start blending, so the more practice the better :)

Thursday
In Religion we are learning about how God created the world. We will be finishing up pictures that show how gorgeous the world really is, they will be outside in the hall for you to see.

Friday
Today, for morning work we will begin writing in our journals. Every Friday from now on, the students will copy the date from the board and print a sentence. They they are to draw a picture above. For the first couple months, usually until after Christmas break, we write a sentence together as a class for them to copy from the board. Then, after Christmas break, they are on their own and can write about anything they would like. It doesn't matter if it is spelled correctly, just as long as they try to write their own sentence. Over the weeks it is very exciting to see the growth in the child's printing. These will be shared at parent/teacher conferences, and then sent home at the end of the year for a keepsake.
Progress reports will be sent home. On the progress report you will see your child's results on his/her color word test. Also, a letter test is attached that we completed on Monday. Your child was given a letter and he/she needed to print both upper and lower case letter. Please review these with your child.
Rest Towels are coming home, please remember to send these back on Monday.

Have a GREAT Week!
Mrs. Dougherty
