The leaves are still falling :)

We are finishing up our unit on leaves this week, along with the letter Ll. Recess time has been especially fun with all the leaves on the ground!
I have added a few new stations to our free play time. We have a cutting table now, where the children practice cutting out different designs on paper. Another station is our "name station" where the children are using dry erase markers on their own laminated name sheet to print their name and trace their name. I also have a coloring table, where the children can free draw and also use some fall stencils to add to their pictures. So far, they seem to love all of these activities!
Here is a look at our week...
Monday
Today we worked on our letter Ll packet. In the afternoon I taught the class a Fall poem about leaves, it was a lot of fun to recite it back. We also found a few new toys to play with during free play! Serenity, one of the 3 year old preschoolers, mom donated a bunch of new things for our classroom. We now have a set of multicultural dolls, a big variety of dress up clothes, and also a brand new set of puzzles! She also gave us some art supplies that we are so excited to use. Thank you Mrs. Lindley!
Our classroom is looking great with all of our fall decorations too!

We will also be practicing our Leaf song, "All the Leaves are Falling Down," and adding movements to it.

A Pumpkin Party!

What a wonderful time we had today on our field trip! The weather couldn't have been more perfect. When we arrived at the field trip we were able to take a tour and pet all the animals: pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, even a bunny. Then, we took a hayride to the pumpkin patch and we each got to pick our very own pumpkin. It was a great time and a great way to start our our pumpkin week! I will be posting pictures later on tonight or tomorrow. A BIG THANK YOU to all the parents/aunts who came on our field trip with us, it was a great help and it made our trip run very smoothly.

Here is a look at our week ahead...

Monday
In the morning we started learning about the letter Pp. In our sensory tub we have shredded paper, and the children have to search through it to find the letter p. At our easel we have orange and black paint to make pumpkins with. We also have some new orange and black playdough with Halloween cookie cutters.

Tuesday
For our art project today we will be finger painting a pink p with purple paint.
We will also start to decorate our Halloween trick-or-treat bags we will be using for our party.

Wednesday
Pumpkin Dissecting! In the morning and the afternoon, we will be dissecting pumpkins! When we are done, we will paint the pumpkins for a decoration in our classroom :)
For an art project today we will be making paper bag pumpkins!

Thursday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!
Today we will be finishing up our Religion Chapter 5, as we will be discussing how Jesus was a Good Shepherd. I will also be teaching the class some songs about pumpkins.

Friday
Please have your child wear RED to school today. The entire school will be dressed in red for drug free awareness day.
We will finish up our letter Pp packet too. I have already seen a big improvement in a lot of our coloring and printing of our names and letters!

Friday is also the end of the 1st quarter of school, this year is flying by! Next Friday, November 4th, your child will be receiving a report card. This is not a typical report card, but rather a report showing your child's progress in preschool. There is a checklist that covers different skills such as; listening, speaking, reading, fine motor/writing, math, etc... Your child will have 3 assessments throughout the year, a Fall, Winter, and Spring assessment. In each section your child will have a check next to the skill saying "NE" = Not Evident yet, MP = Making Progress, or M = which means your child has mastered that skill. Do not worry if your child does not get many "M"s checked, this is the first time many of the students have been in school and the purpose of the checklist is to show improvement throughout the year. Overall the children are doing very well! These will be sent home next Friday, and I will go over them with you at Parent teacher conferences if you wish to attend.

Just a reminder that Monday is Halloween! Your child should wear their costume to school. If you have any questions regarding the parade or parties on Monday, feel free to ask.

Have a great week!
