Week One: Introduction and Explanation of Music Project
Week Two: Students should have an approved book about an artist from the appropriate decade. Independent reading Time.
Week Three: Independent Reading Time
Week Four: Independent Reading Time/Begin working on presentation, fact sheet and book report.
Week Five: Independent Reading Time/Continue working on presentation, fact sheet and book report.
Week Six: Independent Reading Time/Continue working on presentation, fact sheet and book report.
Week Seven: Presentations
Week Eight: Unit Test

Task: Each student will choose a band from the provided list. The student will be responsible for bringing in a book on their band, which must be approved by the teacher. Students are expected to read the book in it’s entirety and provide a three page book report. Student will also be responsible for completing the Artist Fact sheet, creating a poster and bringing in a music sample. All Students are expected to be prepared to present by week 8.

Grade

Book Report – Book Report should be three pages, double-spaced in Times New Roman 12 pt font. The book report should include background information on the band, a history of their career and their contribution to the music of the decade (and beyond if relevant). It needs to be evident that the student read their book and did not compile information from the internet. Book report should be written in your own words, not copied directly from the text. Any direct quotes need to be properly cited. Any student caught plagiarizing will receive a failing grade.

Poster - Poster needs to be completed on standard poster board and should be representative of the information compiled by the student. Poster needs to include graphics (album covers, pictures of the band etc.) The poster will serve as a visual aid during the presentation. Poster should be neat and colorful, utilizing the entire posterboard.

Artist Fact Sheet 25 points


Music Sample – Student needs to bring in a sample of music from their artist. This can be a studio CD or downloaded from the internet and burned. All music samples need to be on a disc (no ipods, flashdrives etc.)

Presentation – Student will present information that was compiled for book report/artist fact sheet utilizing their poster and music samples. Student needs to speak in a clear voice and should not be reading directly from report. Note cards are acceptable, but it is expected that the student is comfortable presenting information as they have been given eight weeks to research. The presentation should be at least 5 minutes in length (not including the music sample).
