Dear 8th grade parents,
I would like to write to clear the air about Friday, October 9. I would like to apologize to any families who may have been worried or inconvienced by their child being held after. I understand your concern with the situation. I am sorry that I did not do a better job of informing parents that their child would be staying late. I would also like to note that students were informed on Thursday that they would be held after on Friday. I realize that this may have not been thorough enough as it is highly possible that the students forgot or simply did not realize how long they would be held after. In the future, I will do a better job to send home any information about detaining students.
Students were held after in order to work on proper classroom behavior. Unfortunately, the behavior of several students has been interfering with the progress of this class. This is truly disappointing to me, as we have been blessed with a class that is very gifted in math. Students were given explicit expectations for the remainder of the year and will be held accountable for any misbehavior in class.
I look forward to working with this class for the rest of the year. I am sure that with classroom behavior improving this class will make great progress.
I appreciate any parents who wrote to express concern and I hope we can move forward in doing what is best for the class.
Please, if you ever have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your understanding and patience,
Ms. Mossuto
