ANNOUNCEMENTS AND HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 24TH-28th

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome Back!

I hope that everyone is still enjoying summer. Just because we're in school doesn't mean that summer is over, and I will prove that by trying to find "pool-time" until about the middle of September.

6th Grade Students and Your Parents:

Although most sixth grade students learn to manage their hectic schedules pretty quickly, there may be a few who need to start the new year with a little "guidance" from home. To alleviate confusion, homework assignments and test dates are updated on a daily basis, and information pertaining to book reports and classroom novels can also be found on the blog. Also, I check my email daily, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

***On Thursday, 6th grade students were given their directions for their 1st quarter book reports.

***All middle school students will receive novel order forms on Friday.

***On Friday, 7th and 8th grade students were given their directions for their 1st quarter book reports.

O.K. So my pool plans may need to be modified.

Book Report directions have been given to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The students are to show their novels to me by Friday, September 11th, and the book reports are due on Thursday, October 15th. Once the students have determined which of the three options that they are choosing for their reports, the students should request rubrics in order to know exactly what is expected of them.

Last Friday, all students were given information about ordering novels that will be read in class. The 8th graders will be reading Across Five Aprils, the 7th graders will be reading My Brother Sam Is Dead, and the 6th graders will be reading The Breadwinner. 7TH GRADE MUSIC/Mrs. Johnson's Homeroom

Our class will have Music in our homeroom on Tuesday afternoons, and we will begin the year by working on different genres of music. Individual presentations will be expected of each student, and although class time will be set aside for the projects, some of the work will need to be completed at home.

Today, students selected the genres that they will be working on, and everyone is expected to bring in five pieces of information pertaining to their selected genre for next Tuesday's class. Students may use books, or articles from magazines, newspapers, or the Internet.

7TH GRADE DISCOVERY/Mrs. Johnson's Homeroom

Using a Webquest, our class will work on creating comic strips. The lesson was introduced today in the Computer Lab, and the students seem very excited about it. There is a character guide that needs to be completed for tomorrow.
