ANNOUNCEMENTS AND HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 5TH - SEPT. 9TH

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Although it was hot, our first week was a great week. (Popsicles work wonders!) Believe it or not, most students seem happy to be back at school, and I was happy to see all of them, as well.

All middle school students will need a 1-inch, 3-ring binder by this Friday. We will use them to organize this year's writing assignments, and an old binder that may be stuffed under a bed (or still in the back seat of the car from last June) is perfectly fine.

Also, my homeroom students will need an additional same-sized binder for their advisory journals.

Reminders: Homework assignment information is updated daily, and missed assignments resulting from absences are allowed twice per quarter.

Engrade access codes will be distributed on Tuesday. If entering my name, it needs to be entered as kellyajohnson. Last week's assignments have been graded, so it is not too early to check your child's progress.

I have a couple of stragglers as it pertains to school supplies. They have been duly warned...

Finally, thank you so much to all of the St. Linus students, present and former (and there were a lot of you), who were so friendly when you saw me at the Brother Rice/Marist football game last Friday night. You have no idea of the impact that was made on friends, neighbors, and even strangers in the stands. I was proud of you, your parents would be proud of you, and many people were left with great impressions of St. Linus students.

Go Hawks (and Hawkettes)!

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 12 - SEPT. 16TH

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Congratulations to the 8th grade students who have been elected by their peers as NJHS officers. Our officers are Kathleen Sullivan, Andrea Horn, Josie Delisi, and Kerry Mahoney. I look forward to working with these great girls!

Please return the purple emergency forms as soon as possible. It is Murphy's Law that I will have an emergency with the one person who has not returned the form.

Because the students need to be wearing their uniforms for class pictures this Friday, those choosing to wear sports' uniforms or jerseys may do so on Thursday.

Also, it is not too soon to begin checking Engrade. I have entered enough assignments to indicate if a student is off to a good start or not. There are a few middle school students who are already on a slippery slope.

Students have been informed that I am continuing with the policy that missing assignments must be completed by the time a particular unit's test has been given. Writing assignments are allowed a little more leeway, but homework from the grammar text, workbook, and vocabulary book will not be accepted after a unit's final assessment.

Finally, my seventh grade homeroom students are really settling in nicely. I love that huge room (with the great view) which has now been furnished with five round tables that are used for lunches, projects, and privacy, if needed.

Do not forget to come visit our classroom at St. Linus's Open House on Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 P.M!

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 19TH - SEPT. 23RD

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Because of my homeroom's afternoon schedule, it is difficult to pass out the Wednesday paperwork at the end of the day, so the students will receive the information on Thursdays. The students are out of the room from 12:30 until 2:35, and the five minutes we have remaining before dismissal is just not enough time to pack up, put chairs up, say our prayers and good-byes, and pass out Wednesday envelope information. Certainly, I will take a look at what is being sent home, and if there is information that cannot wait a day, I will see that it gets home on Wednesday.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND HOMEWORK FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 26TH - SEPT. 30TH

ANNOUNCEMENTS

In anticipation of Hawktoberfest, St. Linus Student Council is hosting Spirit Week. Students (and teachers) will participate in a themed day for every day this week, and we will all be praying for good weather next weekend to ensure the success of this fundraiser for our school.

Thanks to all of the parents who have donated their time and energy to this effort!

National Junior Honor Society will be selling taffy apples Friday night, so please stop by and visit us. (Disclaimer: We are not responsible for any dental expenses incurred as a result of eating taffy apples.)

Progress reports will go home with students who are currently earning a 'D' or an 'F'. (It's difficult to believe, but we are already 1/8 finished with the school year!) Please be reminded that the daily input of assignments and grades into Engrade is my communication regarding students' progress.

*Engrade has changed its format for parent/student/teacher communication, and we have experienced a couple of problems in which parents/students have sent information through Engrade which was not intended for public discussion or examination. The preferred method of communication is via teachers' St. Linus email addresses.

Finally, although nothing about the scheduling, format, or grading will change, English pretests will now be referred to as English reviews.
