September 1, 2011

6th Grade
The sixth graders shared their country design with each other. We then discussed the difference between political and physical maps. Students created a political map of South America. If the map was not completed in class, it is for homework.

7th Grade
The seventh graders continued their group work about the first three civilizations in America.

8th Grade
The eighth grade continued reading from their Constitution books. The questions on page 57 are for homework if they were not completed in class.

Religion
Students made a word collage with the gifts God has given them.

September 2, 2011

ALL CLASS OPENERS BEGIN ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH!!

6th Grade
I collected the political maps from the students who did not finish them in class yesterday. Next, we began our discussion on lines of latitude.

7th Grade
The seventh graders finished up their packet on the three civilizations and handed them in. We then read chapter 1 section 2. Students were given a chart and questions to fill in about the Native Americans. If it was not finished in class, it is for homework.

8th Grade
We corrected page 57. We then read page 58 and discussed the lawmaking process in Illinois. The questions on page 58 are due on Tuesday if they were not finished in class. There will be a quiz on Wednesday over pages 53-58.

Religion
We took a Bible I.Q. fun quiz and talked about when we feel closest to God. The worksheet was collected.

September 6, 2011

Room 22 has gym on Mondays and Wednesdays

6th Grade
We continued learning about latitude and longitude.

7th Grade

We corrected our homework about the Native Americans and read chapter 1.3 together.

8th Grade
We checked workbook page 58 and then read pages 59-60. Students had time at the end of class to answer the questions on these pages. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework. There will be a quiz tomorrow on pages 53-58. The tentative date for the Illinois Constitution test is September 20th.

Religion
We read the Bible story about Abraham Sarah. The students then answered some questions about the story and wrote down their faith words. Students then completed a worksheet about the story. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

September 7, 2011

6th Grade
We continued our study of latitude and longitude. For the remainder of the week, students are going to design a memorial for the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001. The sketch is due tomorrow.

7th Grade
The seventh graders worked on the Section Focus Question on page 6 along with the Check Your Progress (1-2) on page 19. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

8th Grade
We took our first quiz over the Illinois Constitution. We then began to watch In Memoriam: New York City.

Religion
We talked about the Bible story of Gabriel appearing to Mary. We also read the story from the Bible.

All students received their Engrade code from me today

6th Grade
The sixth graders began their memorial for Septmeber 11th. We will continue working on it tomorrow in class. It will be due on Monday.

7th Grade
We corrected our work from yesterday and reviewed the chapter so far. We began reading 1.4 together. The test on chapter 1 will be on Tuesday. Study guides will be due at this time as well.

8th Grade
We continued watching In Memoriam: New York City.

Religion
We talked about how we show faith in God in our daily lives.

September 9, 2011

6th Grade
The sixth graders continued working on their September 11th memorial drawings. If it was not finished in class, it is for homework. We will review latitude and longitude on Monday and there will be a quiz on Tuesday.

7th Grade
The seventh graders finished reading 1.4. Next, we watched some clips and discussed the importance of the volunteers and the feeling of community after the attacks on September 11th. The test on chapter 1 will be on Tuesdays. Study guides will be due at this time as well.

8th Grade
The eighth graders finished watching In Memoriam: New York City. Students were assigned to write a 3 paragraph (6+ sentences per paragraph) reaction paper about the video. This paper must be typed and is due on Tuesday.

Religion
Students completed the chapter’s faith in action. We also completed a worksheet about the traditions of the different religions.

September 12, 2011

Open House is scheduled for September 27th at 7:00 P.M.

6th Grade
The sixth grade handed in their September 11th memorial drawings. We reviewed latitude and longitude. The students will have a quiz tomorrow over latitude and longitude.

7th Grade
The seventh grade played a review game. We will have a test over chapter 1 tomorrow. Study guides are also due at this time.

8th Grade
We corrected workbook pages 59-60 and read 61-63. Students should have the questions on these pages completed for homework if they were not finished in class. The reaction paper is due tomorrow on the video about September 11th. This must be typed and 3 paragraphs (6+ sentences each). Also, there will be a quiz on Wednesday over the Illinois Constitution (up to page 62).

Religion
We completed our chapter 1 Review today. Our test will be on Wednesday.

6th Grade
The sixth grade took their latitude and longitude test today. They received a map worksheet when they were finished. It is for homework if it was not finished in class.

7th Grade
The seventh grade took their chapter 1 test today. Study guides were collected. When students finished the test they were given a worksheet. If this was not finished in class it is for homework.

8th Grade
We corrected our homework from last night and reviewed for our quiz tomorrow on the Illinois Constitution.

Religion
We wrote in our faith journals and reviewed for our test tomorrow over chapter 1.

6th Grade
The sixth graders received their longitude and latitude tests back and we went over them as a class. They read 1.1 and answered questions 1-4 in the Lesson Review. Page 3 in their workbook was also assigned. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

7th Grade
The seventh graders received their chapter 1 tests back and we went over them as a class. We began to read chapter 2.1 together.

8th Grade
The eighth graders took their quiz over the Illinois Constitution. They were assigned to read pages 65-67 and answer the questions in their workbooks. The final test over the Constitution will be on September 20th.

Religion
We took our chapter1 test and then students made cards for the homebound. These cards will be due on Friday.

6th Grade
We corrected our homework from yesterday. Students received their study guides for chapter 1 to begin filling out and studying. We then did an activity pretending like we were archeologists.

7th Grade
The seventh graders finished reading 2.1 and were assigned CYP 1-2 and a two-sided worksheet on Christopher Columbus. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

8th Grade
We went over our quizzes from yesterday and corrected pages 65-67. We reviewed the Illinois Constitution as a class and students received a Constitution crossword puzzle that is due tomorrow. The final Illinois Constitution test will be on Tuesday, September 20th.

Religion
We went over our tests that we took yesterday and did some chapter 2 opening activities.

September 16, 2011

6th Grade
We discussed our activity from yesterday where we pretended as though we were archeologists. Students were assigned workbook pages 1 and 2. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

7th Grade
We checked our CYP and worksheet on Christopher Columbus. We also reviewed what we have learned so far and did some group work discussing the dangers at sea.

8th Grade
We corrected our crossword puzzle from yesterday. We then reviewed for the Illinois Constitution test. The test will be on Tuesday, September 20th.

Religion
The cards for the homebound were due today. Students read the story about Abraham and Issac both from our Bibles and our Religion books. Students answered questions about the reading as well.

September 19, 2011

6th Grade
We read chapter 1.2 together as a class. Students were assigned questions 1-4 at the end of the lesson along with page 4 in their workbooks. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

7th Grade
The seventh graders viewed a video explaining the age of exploration.

8th Graders
We reviewed for our Constitution test tomorrow. Study guides are due at this time as well.

Religion
We read the story about the Last Supper from both the Bible and our books. Students answered questions about the story as well.

Spanish (Room 20)
We reviewed numbers and time. Students were given a worksheet about time that is due next time we meet. There will be a test in two weeks.

September 20, 2011

6th Grade
We corrected our work from 1.2 as a class. Students then did an activity about Skara Brae and also pretended as though they were archeologists in the future.

7th Grade
We read chapter 2.2 together as a class. Students were assigned CYP 1-2. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

8th Grade
We took our Illinois Constitution tests. All students passed; the average score was a 91%!! 25% of the eighth graders scored a perfect 100%. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Religion
We talked about everyday sacrifices people make. Students then made a card thanking someone who has made a sacrifice for them.

September 21, 2011

6th Grade
We read lesson 1.3. Students were assigned the questions at the end of the lesson along with workbook page 6. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework. The chapter 1 test will be next Tuesday; study guides will be due at that time as well.

7th Grade
We corrected our CYP from yesterday and reviewed what we have learned so far.

8th Grade
The eighth graders watched a video about the Reconstruction period.

Religion
We did the chapter 2 activities out of our book. The chapter 2 test will be on Tuesday.

Spanish (Room 26)
Students learned more greeting phrases in Spanish. They received a worksheet that is to be completed by next Wednesday.

September 22, 2011

6th Grade
We corrected our homework from yesterday and watched a clip of The Flinstones and pointed out instances where Stone Age living was apparent.

7th Grade
The seventh graders read 1.3 together and were assigned a worksheet that is due tomorrow.

8th Grade
The eighth graders read 17.1 and we discussed it in class.

Religion
We participated in our chapter prayer service and talked about faith in action in our everyday life.

Spanish
We reviewed numbers and time. Students were given a worksheet about time that is due next time we meet. There will be a test in two weeks.

September 23, 2011

6th Grade
The sixth grade created a modern day Cave of Hands. Their chapter 1 test will be on Tuesday. Study guides are also due at this time.

7th Grade
I checked the homework worksheet from yesterday and we read 2.4. The chapter 2 test will be on Tuesday. Study guides are also due at this time.

8th Grade
The eighth grade watched a clip about boomtowns and completed a worksheet. If it was not finished in class, it is for homework.

Religion
We completed and checked our chapter 2 study guide. The test will be on Tuesday.

6th Grade
We played a review game to help prepare for our chapter 1 test tomorrow. The study guides will be due tomorrow as well.

7th Grade

8th Grade
The eighth graders had high school presentations during social studies class.

Religion
We wrote in our faith journals and reviewed for the test tomorrow.

We reviewed for the test next Monday.

6th Grade
The sixth grade had their chapter 1 test today. Study guides were also collected. Students received a worksheet after the test which is homework if it was not completed in class.

7th Grade
The seventh graders had their chapter 2 test today. Study guides were also collected.

8th Grade
We read chapter 17.2 and listened to Don’t Drink the Water by Dave Matthews Band and discussed how it related to Native Americans. CYP 1 and 2 are for homework.

Religion
Students had their chapter 2 test today. After the test, they wrote a prayer for us to use at the beginning of class. If this was not completed in class it is for homework.

September 28, 2011

6th Grade
The sixth grade students received their chapter 2 study guides and listened to an audio of chapter 2 lesson 1. Students were assigned questions 2-5 at the end of the lesson. If it was not finished in class it is for homework.

7th Grade
Students received their chapter 2 tests and watched a video about colonization in the early Americas.

8th Grade
We reviewed the past two sections and then students read chapter 17.3 on their own. They were assigned CYP questions 1 and 2. If it was not finished in class it is for homework. The chapter 17 test will be next Tuesday. Study guides will also be due at this time. Late work from chapter 17 will not be accepted for partial credit after the test.

Religion
Students received their chapter 2 tests and we went over them as a class. Prayers were collected and we did an activity about keeping and breaking promises. If the activity was not finished in class it is for homework.

Spanish (Room 26)
We corrected our homework from last week and reviewed the phrases we have learned so far. We wrote down numbers 1-20 in our notebooks and students had a worksheet for homework.

September 29, 2011

6th Grade
The sixth graders received their chapter 1 tests back and we went over them together. They also received a worksheet that is for homework if it was not finished in class.

7th Grade
We went over our chapter 2 tests. Students also received their chapter 3 study guide today.

8th Grade
We made billboards promoting the transcontinental railroad. If it was not finished in class, it is due on Monday. The chapter 17 test has been changed to Wednesday. Study guides will also be due at this time.

Religion
We read the story about Jacob tricking Issac for the birthright. We discussed this story as a class.

Spanish (Room 18)
We reviewed for the test next Monday.

September 30, 2011

6th Grade
We corrected the work from 2.1 along with the Mesopotamia activity. Students read chapter 2.2 on their own and answered questions 2-5 at the end of the lesson. Workbook page 10 was also assigned. Whatever was not finished in class is for homework.

7th Grade

We read chapter 3.1 together and CYP 1 and 2 were assigned and due on Monday. Students also received instructions for their Henry Spelman narrative which is due on Wednesday.

8th Grade
We read chapter 17.4 together as a class. Their transcontinental railroad billboard is due on Monday. The chapter 17 test will be on Wednesday. Study guides are also due at this time. Pullman field trip forms are due on Monday.
