         <description>Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to a new school year! I am absolutely thrilled to be your child’s homeroom teacher this year. I am looking forward to a school year filled with learning and fun. At this time, I would like to address some procedures and reminders which I have already discussed with your child today.

I am so excited to announce that Mrs. Janie Vulich will be an aide in the classroom. At this time, we are unsure of the times she will be in the classroom. As the days go on, we will determine when her help is most needed. I look forward to working with Mrs. Vulich to create a classroom where the most amount of learning can take place.

The sixth grade designated entrance and exit door is the gym door. Please plan to drop your child off and pick up your child at this place. If you also have a child in kindergarten that you would like your sixth grader to pick up, they may leave at the 2:35 bell to meet their sibling. Those with a preschool sibling may pick their brother/sister up after the 2:40 bell has rung. If you have a younger child in another grade that you would like your sixth grader to pick up, please let me know. I will talk to the other teacher to find out their preference regarding pick-ups. Please remind your child that only the older sibling is allowed to pick up a child in another room. If children are walking home together, they may meet outside the building.

The school uniform policy is listed in the handbook which you will receive at Open House. Boys must wear belts with their uniforms. Also, moccasins are not appropriate school shoes. On gym days, students may wear their gym uniforms all day until September 30th.

There is still a need for lunch supervisors. If you would like to volunteer, you will be responsible for a homeroom during their half hour lunch period. Lunch supervisors receive tuition credit for their help. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Potrawski.

I am excited to celebrate your child’s birthday with them at school. If you would like to bring in a treat for the class, you may do so. Please remember there are 34 children in the 6th grade class. Treats will be passed out at lunch time. If your child has a summer birthday, they may bring in treats on their half birthday. To prevent hurt feelings, no birthday party invitations may be passed out at school whatsoever. Thank you for your understanding.

Each classroom is responsible for planning grade level masses as well as one All-School Mass. The grade level masses for sixth grade will be at 8:30 on October 19, November 8, and March 29. The All-School Mass that we will be planning is January 10. The time will be announced at a later date.

The sixth graders are a part of the middle school which means they will be switching classes this year. The different teachers are the following:

English: Mrs. Kelly Johnson
Math: Ms. Jessica Mossuto
Reading: Mrs. Jean Swiecicki
Religion: Ms. Katelynn Krahn
Science: Mr. Larry Pawelski
Social Studies: Ms. Katelynn Krahn

Students will be split into two groups for reading and math. For the first week or so, students will be divided alphabetically. After some tests have been administered, students will be split up again to better serve them academically.

I believe good parent/teacher communication is vital for the success of your child. I will post to my blog on a weekly basis. Please email me if you have any questions or concerns. However, if you have questions regarding a class other than social studies or religion, I would suggest emailing that particular teacher because they would have more information to answer your questions more fully.

Lastly, at Open House you will receive a Parent and Student Handbook. The last page of the handbook is a form that must be returned to school. Please do so in a timely manner.

Have a great day,
Ms. Katelynn Krahn
