First Rockin' Chair Reading Grandma
« August 2009 | Main | October 2009 »
* Each new month the class gets a new pencil.Extra pencils are available too!
* Math Homework- I understand that you have a lot going on so I will give the class 2 nights to do Math hmwk. There won't be Math worksheets every night, just when I think the concept needs more help. Did you start the flashcards?
* Hopefully the shoeboxes will go home tomorrow.......................
* If there are parents that weren't able to make open house, and you would like to help, I am looking for help on Fridays from 1-2:15 for Centers starting in Oct. It wouldn't be every week. A schedule will be going home. 3-4 year olds could come and play in the room........
* Need 1 more helper for Valentine's Party too.
* Homework for next week will be reviewing what is in take home folder.
THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS! ML
* Birthdays! We have 4 coming up this month! If you would like to send a treat in great. I just ask that you don't send cupcakes or candy. Cupcakes are so messy! Since it's still hot in the room, I know the class would love freeze pops or ice cream!! Just a thought.
* f.p. Did you see these letters on a paper the last few days? Each morning first thing will be a "first paper" so the class can get busy and I can check folders etc. Sometimes we correct them and sometimes we don't. If your child is always bringing one paper home not finished I am going to say it's because he/she is not working. I know some are not their best in the morning too!
* SNEEZING Are you as concerned about the flu as I am? Help me and remind your child to cough, or sneeze into their arm by the inside of their elbow. Good practice to get into the habit at both school and home.
* Last have a memory maker kind of week-end. Enjoy the beautiful weather. I myself will be on the beach at Long Beach!!!! ML
Lots of hard work is in your child's folder. I like to send daily work home as much as possible.
Can your child read the rhyming words on the white folded paper? If not please let me know and I have a game ready to play with at home.
The Math test was Kdg. review as the next chaper is also. So everyone should have gotten a good grade! Horray for good listeners!
Remind your child to use the wipes and hand sanitizer that sits on the computer desk when needed.
Thats all for now! ML
Thursday is Library day.
If your child brought home the Big Monkey, Little Monkey please return when he/she has mastered it.
We did something new today. We highlighted all the short i's in the story I See It. Can your child read them? We read as a whole group and then we read in our small groups. Some had trouble.
We will be working on short vowel sounds for a while. Practice, practice and practice more if your child needs it.
Little stories should go in the shoebox too. Great to reread them when time permits.
The stories I See Blue, Red, Yellow and Big Monkey, Little Monkey need to come back when your child is finished like I said I think yesterday. The stories that are run-off, do not come back but should also go in the shoebox.
Most are keeping the High Frequency Envelope in the take home folder. Today I gave some a 2nd. one. PLEASE KEEP THIS ENVELOPE IN THE FOLDER. We are getting in the habit of putting that envelope on top of the behavior chart when there are words in it. Once we get through the kdg. review, words will go home only once a week.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOEY!! THE CLASS WILL ENJOY THE POPSICKLES SOON! ML
LUNCH TOWLES PLEASE!
We started a game in Math today using flashcards. Have you started?
* You don't have to send a dollar 4 ice scream. Often it is a waste of money for first graders. You know your child best!
* Are you playing the games inside Family Times? There is one in the folder today. The cover says My Friend is a Kitten. Often these reinforce reading concepts in the classroom.
* 10 children have the story I Like to Hop in their folder. This story needs to come back. The story DO THAT goes in the shoebox after your child reads it to you.
* The class is adjusting nicely to the "workload" with song breaks inbetween.
Nine clothespins were moved today. The class started out SO GOOD! Just a gentle reminder would be greatly appreciated to try his/her best.
We also sat today because the hallway behavior by the bathroom was not as good as usual. So hopefully it is due to a change in our weather......
5 students didn't have their name on their Math hmwk. That should be the first thing that gets done......
Everyone has Get A Tent in their folder today. Please return no later than Mon.
Hopefully your child can play outside!
Thanks for taking the time to read this. ML
* Please look and see if you have Get the Tent at home. I keep records of who returns books and the 2 parents said they did. Please check I would appreciate it.
* We are winding down the Kdg. review in Reading. At the end of the week the class will take the skills test to let me and you see where help is needed.
* Starting Friday homework will be posted on the blog for the following week.Sometimes it won't be there until Sunday though. You will see a pattern take shape for the homework.
*Next Monday the class will get their hard cover reader! The reader needs to be returned daily so we can use it in class too.
* Spelling words will be typed in Computer class and put in the take home folder starting 9-28. Tests are on Friday unless there isn't school then the test will be on Thurs.
*It's hard to put Math hmwk. on the blog because we might not get to that concept yet. Math hmwk.is always a review of what is done in class.
* Remember the first grade letter that went home? 6 still need to sign and return the back page. Thanks!
*Have a great week!
In your child's folder today is the 3rd math test. Everyone is catching on. Be sure to read the back of each new chapter page because it gives you some ideas of what you can do at home as well as what we are doing in class.
Please return I Am a Bug by Friday.
If your child is having a birthday party, all girls or all boys need to be invited if invitations are to be passed out at school.Don't want any sad children because he/she didn't get one. Thanks for understanding.
Have a good night!
* L U N C H T O W E L S PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
* In your child's folder today is the Reading practice workbook that the class completed. It does not come back.
* Each child has a daily oral letter that we worked on this past month. Some are excited to play "school" with it. Every 25 days one will be sent home.
* M I S S I N G 3 I Am a Bug....................
