NAEYC Conference

Oh it was so intense! Learned lots and bought 2 new CD's. Ask them if they can sing Tony Chestnut to you! I went to many workshops that talked so much about our brains and how they work. So I realized Sat. morning that there is some part of MY brain that I need to use more becasue I had the hardest time finding the parking lot at the convention center each morning.

Since this is a short week and Thanksgiving week is short, I am combining weeks . So there won't be a spelling test this week. Check the folder for homework as usual.
**We took the Unit 2 reading test this morning.....so the next book will start tomorrow.

**Math timed sub.test Tues.
**SPELLING TEST: TUES. 11-15

**We previewed the book fair this morning. I told the class that they may not get there wish list.... We are going as a class on Wed. at 8:40 if you would like to join us. Or, a reminder the parent night is tomorrow night.

A Teachable Moment!

We had the best experience Thursday in Math. Instead of working on the planned activity, we counted pop top lids. The twins mom brought in a filled milk jug of pop tops which will be sent to Hope Hospital. First, we estimated how many there were. Next, they put them in groups of ten on their desks which took quite a long time. Each child was so engaged! Then they journaled making tally marks. Each tally mark had a value of 10. We had to stop and get ready for home. Today, we talked about what the next step was going to be. So, they came to the rug with a pencil and their journal. They cirlced each group of 5 which actually was 50. Next we counted by 50's and came up with a grand total of 3,481. I know this activity will be a highlight of the year!
