September 10-11th,2009

Hi Parents,
Hope you are enjoying this perfect weather we have been having. As I mentioned in my newsletter, its too bad we didn't have more of this in July! I have been taking the students out as often as possible-we want to take advantage of this weather while we have it.

Thank you for helping your child with last night's homework- the poem activity paper. I will be assigning class poem papers about every 2 weeks throughout the school year. I have been doing this activity for several years and the students really seem to benefit from it. I will be compiling all the poems in the binders that I have asked you to send it. Please send one in when you are able to.

We started letter book O yesterday-when reviewing its sound with your child, remember we only learn the short o sound in Kindergarten( as in octopus, October, etc.) Homework for letter O will be sent home next week.

Picture day went well today-they all looked so nice!

I sent home a Scholastic book order form yesterday. I will be sending a form home every month throughout the school year, so don't feel obligated to purchase books each month.
I would appreciate all orders/money for this month's order to be brought in by this Friday, 9/11.

Friday is the 8th anniversary of 9/11. I will be doing a special art project in honor of this day.
This Friday is also group picture day. No gym uniforms are to be worn-only school uniforms.
Also, please do not have your child bring their gym uniforms to school-they'll still have gym in their school uniforms.

All Ladies Guild hot lunch order forms are due by this Friday.

Next week I will begin testing the students on their recognition of the color words: red, yellow, blue, green, orange, purple, brown, black. Please take some time to review the words with your child. We will also begin working on our "Color words" booklet.

There are still some students who have not brought back their rest towels-please have your child bring one in.

Yesterday we celebrated Mary,( Jesus' mother's birthday). I made a cake and we all sang "Happy Birthday". The pictures that were posted turned out so nice. I especially like the one of Mary in front of the cake. She looks as if she is looking down at it-how cute!

Finally, the class is really doing quite well. We are progressing nicely in our letter books and Math booklets. There are a few students that are still having difficulty printing their names. If you see corrections that I have made with your child's name on their work, please have him/her practice printing it. If you need printing paper, please let me know and I will send some home in your child's folder.

I think we are expecting another gorgeous weekend ahead-enjoy!!!!

Have a good evening,
Mrs. Revis

Week of September 14th-18th

Hi Parents,

Once again, we had a gorgeous weekend~hope you all enjoyed it.

This week's happenings:

Monday: Thank you to Kody's mom for providing this week's snack.
We went to the all school mass and the class was very well behaved. When attending mass with your child on the weekends, I encourage you to have him/her sing the songs and say the prayers. The Kindergarten class last year participated in our masses by singing and praying so well that Fr. Bill even commented on their great participation during one of our masses. They were so proud of themselves~hope the compliments continue!!

*Your child came home with a new library book today~all books are due back next Monday, 9/21.

Tuesday: Computer class( Mrs. Rosellini still needs helpers!)
O "picture" paper assigned for homework.

Wednesday:O "picture" paper due back for class discussion.
Oo printing paper assigned for homework.
Ice cream will be sold at lunch for $1.00. The students can purchase a Popsicle or an ice cream sandwich. If you would like your child to buy ice cream, please put their money in an envelope with their name and " ice cream " money written on it.
Ice cream will be sold many times throughout the school year.

Thursday: Oo printing paper due back.
Art class

Friday: Gym class
We will be making Fruit Loop owls for our art activity. (Reinforce the shape of O and an activity the class can eat!!-yummy!!)

* If you have not turned in a binder for our class poems, please do so. Thank you.

* Keep reviewing those color words-I can tell which students are receiving help from home. I will be testing each child next week on their knowledge of them. Award certificates will be awarded to all students who can read them all!!

Thank you for helping your child with their "Getting to know me" paper. I will be displaying them in the hall outside my room along with Room 15's papers. Stop by some time and take a look.

Another thank you for taking the time to read my blog~hope you enjoy the pictures!

Have a good week~ Go BEARS!! (What happened last night??)

September 17th, 2009

Hi Parents,

Good news: We independenly worked on a page in our letter books this morning in which we had to identity the picture ( all the pictures began with C or O) and print its correct beginning letter. I told the class this was a little test. We put up privacy folders so we could not see each other's work. Well... tomorrow when your child brings home their "Oo" book, check out page 11 and see for yourself what a great job he/she did. I am so proud of the entire class!!!

2 reminders: Gym uniforms/shoes are to be worn tomorrow.
I still need binders for our class poems-please send yours in if you have not done so.

Rest/snack towels will be coming home tomorrow to be cleaned--don't forget to bring it back on Monday.

Enjoy your day-another beautiful one!

Week of September 21-25th

Hi Parents,

We've reached the 20th day of school and things are going well. We started our 3rd letter book, can read our color words, and finished our 1st chapter in Math. I am pleased with the progress the students are making. A little progress report is coming home on Friday letting you know how well your child did on their color words, and a comment from me on behavior.

The agenda for the Week:

Monday: Began letter book Gg, we only learn the "hard" g sound in Kindergarten (goat, gum, girl).
Started our Apple unit. Today we listened to a story on how apples grow, and various types such as: Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith.
Class poem paper assigned for homework.

Tuesday: 1st day of Fall!
Computers
Begin Math "Challenge" packet.

Wednesday: Apple Tasting Day! We will each have a slice of a Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith apple. After we sample each, we will graph our results-this is a great way to introduce the use of graphs and how to read them.

Thursday: Art

Friday: Ladies Guild hot lunch
Gym
Pep rally in gym @ 1:00
Johnny Appleseed activity
Progress reports coming home

Have a great week!

Week of September 28-October 2nd, 2009

Hi Parents,

We sure said goodbye to the beautiful summer weather last night! Oh my!
The students really seemed to enjoy the apple unit last week. Did you hear about our apple tasting? We sampled Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith. Once again, Granny Smith won! The final tally was, Red Delicious: 2 votes, Golden Delicious: 6 votes, and Granny Smith with 8 votes. (I student was absent). I have been doing this apple tasting for 10 years now, and Granny Smith has been the winner every year! Ask your child to name the 5 parts of an apple, and how Johnny Appleseed got his name. It was a fun week!

Thanks for reviewing the color words, the class did quite well!

Our agenda this week:

Today: Congratulations Kayla O'Brien for being our first Star-of-the-Week!! A letter went home explaining the details and who our new class friend is- Baby Duck! She is 5 years old, and has had many fun adventures over the years. She especially loves visiting homes she has previously visited in years past.

Gg picture paper assigned for homework. If your child draws their pictures, please have him/her color them-it looks better when their paper is presented to the class.

Tuesday: Computers

Wednesday: Gg printing paper assigned for homework
I will introduce "blending" of letter sounds c,o, and g. This is how we learn to read.
I always tell the students when we make a milk shake, we blend ice cream and milk to make 1 thing-a milkshake. When blending sounds, we blend them together to make one sound.

Thursday: Art
In Religion this week, we are discussing the gift of our 5 senses that God has given us. We will be using many of our senses on Friday when I make popcorn with the class-Yum!!

Friday: Prayer service @ 9:30
Gym
Mother Goose field trip permission slip/money due
Begin printing in our journals as part of our morning work. This will continue every Friday throughout the year. Its always so interesting to see the printing in the journals when the students first begin, and then what the printing looks like in May-its amazing!

I began the "Challenge packets" today. I have the students put up their privacy folders-this way I can get an accurate result of how well they each did. I hope to send them home on Friday.

Rest towels will be coming home to be cleaned this Friday.

Have a great week-don't blow away!!
