November 3-6th, 2009

Hi Parents,
Hope you all had a fun Halloween~the class party went very well. Thank you to Mrs.Lundy for organizing it and for all the moms who assisted her. We will be having a Christmas party. (It will be here before you know it!)

This Week:

Congratulations Emily for being our star-of-the-week! This is Baby Duck's 3rd visit to the Hennessy home. She was there when Emily's two sisters were star-of-the-week. Enjoy!

I was very pleased with our behavior in church yesterday. The students are saying the prayers and singing the songs as much as possible.

We began letter book Ss as in snake~ssssssssssssssss sound!

A word list was sent home yesterday~please review.

Tuesday: Ss picture paper assigned for homework~due Wednesday.

Wednesday: 2-5 printing paper assigned for homework. A few of the students had difficulty with #'s 2 and 3. Let me know if you need more paper for your child to practice on.

I am beginning a Science lesson. If my schedule allows, I will try to implement a Science activity into my plans on Wednesdays since we do not have a "Special" on that day.

Friday: Gym
Report cards coming home: You may keep the report card, but please sign and return the envelope.
Rest towels coming home.

The !st quarter went very well~thank you for your cooperation with the homework assignments and other class activities. Please continue to have your child practice their printing, and reading the word lists. Just a suggestion~when your child brings home their completed letter book, take time to go through it with him/her, and review the concepts that were covered. In the past, I have made picture flash cards from the pictures in the book. It makes for a great review .

Enjoy your week~its nice to see the sun!

November 9-13th, 2009

Hi Parents,

This wekend felt like the month of May rather than November! It was beautiful! Just think...we could have snow next month!

I hope you had an opportunity this weekend to discuss your child's report card with him/her. If you did, I appreciate it. I reviewed the report card on Friday and explained what the S and X meant.
If you have not done so, please sign and return the envelope.

This week:

Monday: The students all agreed that when we have a shortened week, they want to skip being star-of-the-week. Everyone wants their 4 nights with Baby Duck! I am able to be flexible with this due to the smaller class size this year..so it works! Thank you to all the families who have had their visit with Baby Duck. She has come back, along with the bag, and book in perfect condition. I appreciate it.

Ss printing paper for homework. Please continue to have your child do their own homework, but I would also appreciate it if you would check it over before it goes in the folder. I have recently seen some past printing assignments in which the work was done, but never checked by a parent. Take a quick minute to take a look at it.

Tuesday: Book Fair. As I stated in my newsletter today, I will be taking the students @ 11:10. Feel free to come and help your child with their purchases. If you do plan on coming, please come to the room @ 11:05. ( No sooner please-we will be having Math at that time). If you are unable to come, and want your child to purchase a book, put the money in an envelope with your child's name and "Book money" on the envelope. If you do not plan on giving your child money, please please please explain to your child why he/she is not getting a book. I have had many tears over the years when a child does not get something when all their classmates have. (There are items below $5.00 in case you want to keep the cost down.)
Remember: The Book Fair will be open tomorrow evening from 5:30-8:30.

Thursday: Veterans Assembly in church.
Early dismissal @ 11:30. I will be walking the students out @ 11:25.
Parent-Teacher conferences. I will be available from 12:00-3:45. ( I have a conference scheduled for 3:45.) As I mentioned in the letter sent home last week, I am unable to meet after 4:00 due to a family matter. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. If you do want to meet with me and are unable to during the times listed above, feel free to contact me and we can set up another time. Thank you for understanding.

Friday: NO SCHOOL! ENJOY!

I can't believe Thanksgiving will be here in 2 weeks. Wow time flies! The Kindergarten will be having our annual Charlie Brown Thanksgiving celebration on Tuesday, November 24th. We have this in place of a class party. Mrs.Dougherty, Mrs. Gute, and I will be planning this. I'll make sure to take pictures and post them for you to see.

See you at Conferences!

Keep having your child read the word lists~it helps!!

Hi Parents,

Hope you enjoyed the cute pictures of our Thanksgiving celebration. The students had a lot of fun and looked great as Indians and Pilgrims.

Yesterday I sent home a December book order. Please remember to turn in your money by next Monday, November 30th. I need to allow enough time so I will receive the order before Christmas break. Also, if you would like to order books for a Christmas present, and do not want your child to know, let me know and I will make sure you get them~just include a note with your order.

I was very pleased with the results of the spelling test I gave last week. For a first test, the class did quite well. As I mentioned in my letter, when reviewing the word lists I send home, have your child sound out the letters, read the word, and then try printing it without looking at it.
Your child's printing will also improve.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy reading the Turkey recipes~they were very amusing.
