December 2-4, 2009

Hi Parents,

Hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving! Please excuse my tardiness with my blog this week~its been a busy one for me.

Congratulations Colin! He is our star-of-the-week! Baby Duck visited his home 5 years ago. I'm sure she is excited to be back at the Ashley home.

We began letter book Ii this week. Please continue to review the previous letter sounds/word lists as often as possible. I will be giving another spelling test next week.

There are several students having difficulty printing numbers 1-10 correctly~ I still am seeing many reversals. Have your child practice their printing. I will be giving a printing test next week.

Yesterday we began talking about how important our families are and what we like to do with our families. Going to the beach, out to dinner, and playing games were some of our favorite activities. All family pictures are due in tomorrow for class discussion.

As I mentioned in my newsletter, I will not be here on Friday because of a family wedding. We all know that a substitue does not always do things the exact way as the teacher does. I have told the class not to say," Mrs. Revis doesn't do it that way." Please remind your child to be on their best behavior~I certainly would appreciate it.

I do try and take the class out for recess if the weather allows. Its good to get some fresh air~especially in this room that is quite warm. Please make sure your child has a hat or hood and some mittens.

On Monday we discussed the meaning of Advent, and made our own Advent wreaths yesterday.
Our class poem is also about Advent. When taking your child to church on Sunday, point out the Advent wreath that is in church.

Have a good week~stay warm!

Hi Parents,

Winter has arrived and Christmas will soon be here. Our classroom is all decorated as well as the hallway. We "lit" (colored) our second candle on our Advent wreaths today. Also, during Circle time each day, I choose one of the students to open up a window on our Advent calendar. This is such a fun time of year in Kindergarten.

We went to church this morning for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. We did very well.

Gianna is our star-of-the-week. Congratulations Gianna! She is also celebrating her birthday this Saturday~what a fun week!

I sent home a letter yesterday regarding the Christmas program next Wednesday. If your child is unable to attend, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.

Tuesday: Class poem assigned for homework.
Progress reports coming home.

Wednesday: Ii printing paper assigned for homework.

Thursday: Art

Friday: Gym
Art: In class we will be painting Christmas trees.

A note went home, and I also mentioned in my newsletter that the school is collecting money for the Medical Missionaries of Mary. Our bank is empty~any contributions will be greatly appreciated.

I heard that the temperature for this Thursday will be 18 degrees. I will be dismissing the students from the church entrance near the parking lot. I will continue this procedure for any days this
Winter that will be that cold. I would suggest you not park along Lawler Avenue.

Please continue to have your child practice their song for the Christmas program.

Have a good week~stay warm!

Hi Parents,
Hope you are enjoying the Christmas season. It is always such a hectic but fun time of year.
Our last week of 2009:

Congratulations Eric! He is our star-of-the-week. This is Baby Duck's first visit to the Grajeda family~have fun!!

Tuesday: Class poem paper assigned for homework.
Begin pulling off one link per day on your Christmas count down chain~when the star is left, you know Christmas will be here. 10 more days left! Where has the time gone?

Wednesday: Icecream sold at lunch-bring $1.00.
Christmas Program in church @ 7:00. Please have your child at church by 6:45.
I will be waiting for them in our designated area. Don't forget the Santa hat!

Friday: Dress down day! Your child may wear red/green. Bring $1.00-money will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
Christmas Party~10:30-11:30
Ladies Guild hot lunch
Gym
As I mentioned in my newsletter, all "Tt" homework/word list will be sent home after the break.
We will also begin reading our first story in our letterbooks. The amount of words your child will be required to read will now increase with each book.

Over the break, please have your child practice printing their full name (first and last but no middle.) I will have them begin printing their full name as soon as we return. Also, continue to have your child practice sounding out and reading words from our previous lists. Students have a tendency to fall behind when there is a break.

Finally, its been a wonderful year so far. I am quite impressed with the progress this class has made. Our weekly journals have improved considerably and our reading is coming along.

Have a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. See you on January 4th, 2010.

Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Revis
