Hi Parents,
Hope you are having a good week so far. Another warm two days in the classroom. It looks like tomorrow will be cooler. Thank God. Our week:
We began letter book O yesterday. As in all the vowels, we only learn the short sounds. So, the O sound is in words such as October, and in octopus, to name a few. Speaking of octopus, we listened to a story about an octopus today. As many of you parents who know me, I am quite interested in animal facts and enjoy reading my many books about animals and their amazing qualities. Ask your child on occasion what new animal fact he/she has learned.
The "O" picture paper was assigned today for homework. I have told the students that if they draw pictures, they are to be colored. They appear so much nicer and the other students pay attention more when the paper looks colorful as it is presented.
In Math we are completing our first chapter and will begin chapter 2 next week on Patterning. On Friday, I will be giving the students a Challenge packet which cover the concepts that we discussed these last 2 weeks. I will be giving out these packets at the culmination of each chapter we cover in Math. We do this in class, and I put up privacy folders so the students are unable to "share" their answers. I also give the directions one time and do not help the students as I would when we are covering the material initially. I think its beneficial to challenge my students and at the same time work on listening skills. Over the years, I find that students really "listen" when given directions one time. Try this at home some time when you need your child to do something for you. The challenge packets will be sent home, so please take time to review it with your child. Also, do not become "alarmed" if your child does not get 100% on it. Remember~its a challenge and a few of the concepts are a little harder for some students to grasp.
In Religion we met our "Faith First friends". They are 6 characters that will be in our many stories we listen to in our Religion series. The students all came home with the cut outs of the characters today. They can keep these at home.
Tomorrow, Wednesday is Picture day. As stated in my newsletter, it is a dress up day. Friday is class picture day so no gym uniforms are to be worn.
Thank you for helping your child with the class poem activity paper yesterday. Please send in your child's binder when possible. I would appreciate it if you would have their name in the upper right hand corner.
There are still students coming to school without a snack and/or rest towel. All students need these EVERY day.
I am quite pleased with the way the students are arriving to school each day. We are all coming in on our own, hanging up our backpacks, and remembering to hand in our folder. The students feel so proud of themselves when they are able to be independent. Ask your child each week what his/her job is. They love their class room jobs!!
Enjoy the remainder of the week!
