Hi Families,
Happy New Year! Hope you all enjoyed Christmas. It was a nice, relaxing break.
Congratulations Mikey for being our next star-of-week! Its Baby Duck's second visit to the Horan house. Baby Duck was there 6 years ago when Mikey's brother, John was in Kindergarten. Baby Duck was only a year old. Have fun :)
We began letter book Ff yesterday. The picture paper was assigned today, and the printing pages will be assigned tomorrow, and Thursday.
There is no story in this letter book, so please have your child review the word list that was sent home. Some day next week I may be giving another spelling test.
We began our new chapter in Math yesterday. This chapter focuses on counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's. Today we counted by 10's and used Fruit Loop cereal to help us identify and count the numbers.When we were finished, we enjoyed a little treat:).
A Family Snowman activity went home yesterday. I was asked if you have to disguise the snowman, No! That was only for the turkey activity. Just dress up the snowman any way you wish.
Friday is the end of the 2nd quarter. This week and next, I will be testing each of the students on printing, number/letter recognition, and reading various words. Please review these concepts with your child. Report cards will be distributed soon.
This Sunday at the 10:30 mass we will be celebrating our Blue ribbon status with Cardinal George. If you plan on having your child attend, please have him/her dressed in their school uniform and sit with our class in our designated spot we sit for all school masses. I will be there, so look for me.
No school next Monday, January 16th in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Tomorrow and Thursday we will be reading our Scholastic news magazine about him and will discuss how we can solve problems peacefully, and how we should pay attention to who people are on the inside instead of on the outside.
Have a good rest of the week and enjoy our last day of Spring weather tomorrow. Snow is coming!
