Good Afternoon,

This is just a quick note to let you know that the Vocabulary Unit 3 Test will be on Thursday, October 8th. Wednesday will be quite busy, and I thought it would be best if I moved the test to Thursday. We will still have the Spelling Test, Unit 3, on Tuesday, Oct. 6th, 2009.

Homework for Monday, Oct. 5th, 2009:

English - page 47, the Evens
Science - Chapter A2, Lesson 2. The four vocabulary words for lesson 2, pages A47-A52.

Good Afternoon,

Today the students were told about their first Book Report. It will be due on Friday, 10/30/09.
Here is the criteria:

a) The book needs to be at least 100 pages.
b) The report needs a cover sheet. This may be hand drawn or photo copied.
c) The book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid will not be an acceptable book to read.
d) The report may either be typed or hand written in Cursive.
Tomorrow, I will send the book report format home in your child's Friday Folders.

Thursday's Homework (10/08/09)
Reading - workbook pages 27 and 28
Science - worksheet #16. This will be for a grade.

Upcoming Events:
Monday, Oct. 12th, 2009 Holiday, No Classes

Tuesday, 10/13/09 All School Mass.
Reading and Skills Test for the story "Yingtao's New Friend", Skill - comparison and contrast. Both Tests wil be open book.

Vocabulary (orange book) Unit 4, Index cards are due

I hope everyone had a good, long, and restful weekend. I just wanted to let you know a few upcoming events:
Monday, 10/19/09 8:30 Mass for Grades 2-5.
Tuesday, 10/20/09 Vocabulary (orange book) Unit 4 Spelling Test
Wednesday, 10/21/09 Vocabulary (orange book) Unit 4 Test.
Thursday, 10/22/09 Gym Day (11:03 - 11:43 a.m.) Don't forget to bring your gym bag.
Friday, 10/23/09 Ladies Guild Hot Lunch Day

For the Following week (week of 10/26/09 - 10/30/09) It's Red Ribbon Week, and the
Theme this year is The Key is to be Drug Free. A letter will be going home explaining
what's happening everyday. Also, on Friday, Oct. 30th, 2009, we will be havng a Halloween
party in the afternoon. Fourth graders will not be dressing up in Costumes. Instead, it will be a dress down day. The students will wear black and orange, and they may wear jeans. They will also be asked to pay $.50, and the money will be donated to a good cause. (Dress Down Day is only for 4th through 8th grade students).

I hope everyone is doing well. This is to let you know the schedule for next week:

Monday, 10/26/09 Red Ribbon Week starts today.
Tuesday, 10/27/09 8:30 Mass for Grades 2-5.

Wednesday, 10/28/09
Vocabulary (orange book) Test on Units 1-4. There will be 4 sections to the test. The first section is Word Meanings. A word bank will be provided. The second section will be on Parts of Speech. The student will have to decide if the word in boldface is a Noun, Verb, or an Adjective. Example: a PORTION of pizza. Your child would place an "N" on the line. Sections 3 and 4 will both be completing the sentences. Word Banks will be given as well.

Reading: Open Book Test on "Family Pictures" and the Skill - Author's Purpose.

Friday, 10/30/09
Book Reports are due today! Halloween Party in the afternoon. End of First Quarter
