Reading: COVER YOUR NOVEL IN CONTACT PAPER BY FRIDAY! Parents I sent home information that contains a website if you are unsure about how to cover the book. Reread section 1 (chapters 1-2) and find a shoebox. I will explain more about the shoebox later this week.
Continue reading your book report book, I would like to see (or see again) the book you chose for your report by FRIDAY.
Reader Response and vocabulary words that go along with the novel are due on Wednesday. We will also have a quiz over section one.
Parents, one key to comprehension of a story, especially like the one we are reading, is to reread the book. The more, the better.
Room 26: We will be having a spelling and vocabulary test over Unit 6 on THURSDAY
Some key points for the next few weeks about what we will be covering in school...
Parents, we finally are starting our literature circles today! For the next three weeks in reading and grammar, we will be reading the children's novel From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. We will be reading the book in two chapter sections and they should reread the selections at home as we read them in class. For grammar, we will be learning new vocabulary words that can be found in the story. They will be given time in class to define the words but if they cannot complete that in class, they will need to take it home for homework. There will be 5 quizzes, one for each section, we will have the quiz after two -three days reading and working with the section.
In science, we started a new chapter on ecology. This is a long and involved chapter, so I suggest that you recommend that your child bring her/his book home at least three times a week to reread what we read in class.
As I stated earlier, one key in comprehension is to reread the book.
In my homeroom, we will be starting our prelim rounds to see who will qualify for the All-School Geography Bee. Therefore, I suggest that you start looking at a globe and a few maps if you hope to qualify. If happen to make it through the rounds in the classroom, and then onto win the school geography bee, there is a chance that you could win the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHY BEE.
First prize at the national level (after state competitions) is a $25,000 college scholarship and $500 in cash!
If you want some tips or to just brush up on your geography facts, go to the National Geographic website and you can learn more information.
