As you can see, we are back online with our blogs. It was a very long two weeks when our server went down. There were some internal problems, new parts bought, delayed delivery because of the snow on Friday, January 27th, server in for a transplant of old to new parts, then back in time for Catholic Schools Week! All in all, we were still able to function without our modern technology for those few days. However, it did make everyone aware just how dependent on computers we've become!

Right now everyone is very happy to be back using the lab as usual. Regular projects are being resumed along with general Internet use for all. I apologize if this caused any inconveniences or miscommunications.
Thanks to all for their patience and understanding.

Welcome to the new year, and what an exciting one it will be!

We are all excited and proud to be one of the national Blue Ribbon School winners of 2012 and St. Linus, as a parish, is celebrating this momentus occasion with a special mass on Sunday, January 15th at 10:30 am. It will be exciting to have Cardinal George and School Superintendent, Sister Mary Paul as attendees. A reception will be held in the Cardiff Center immediately after Mass.

Our sacramental buddies are off to a good start this new year. The second and eighth grade buddies meet the first or second Monday of the month to spend some time together. The topics vary each month, but usually cover an area of our faith. During the month of Janaury the buddies made and colored prayer cards. Each month they look forward to sharing their time and talents with each other, as well as getting to know their buddies a little better.

Computer classes are busy with projects and activites in each grade. Keyboarding is also an important skill that is frequently practiced. Many online activites are explored to enhance the students' knowledge in their various subject areas.

At the end of January and through the first week of February, we will also be celebrating and showing off St. Linus School during Catholic Schools Week. More information will be posted with the various activites taking place during that week.

What a great way to start off 2012...Happy New Year!

The eighth grade class and the second grade class will be participating in the Sacramental Buddies Program. Each eighth grade student will be paired up with a second grade student. We will meet on Monday afternoons during the school year to get to know each other and work on projects together.

As the focus for this program is on the sharing of spiritual gifts, there can be absolutely no material gift giving between the students. The gifts they share will be the true gifts of friendship,
faith and a sense of family.

Thank you for your understanding on this matter. We look forward to working with the children and watching them continue to grow on their journeys toward First Communion and Confirmation.

In Religion class, we have finished chapter one and took the test. We will be doing a fall activity sheet, then start to look over the new mass book that will be used once the liturgical new year begins with the first Sunday of Advent. Since Wednesday is picture day for the whole school, and all will be dressed up, the 8th graders will have a candid picture taken so that it can used in one of their projects during computer class. Seventh graders will also log onto the system as individual users and begin their projects.

Sixth graders have learned to log on as an individual, with their own user names & passwords. This allows middle school students to be able to save their work on the server under their own name, and not as a particular grade or group. Fifth & sixth graders both will learn how to save documents to a particular place and then find them again. It seems that every fall we have to so this same lesson a couple of times so that students remember what they learned in the past year.

Fourth graders are also learning where and how to save documents. They all did a practice paper and were able to save it in their folder, exit and reopen it again. Hopefully they will remember this again next week.

Third graders will have their candid photos taken sometime next week so they can begin their Time Magazine cover in computer class. It always fun to read the captions they use as to why and how their picture made it to the cover of the magazine. Since second grade is such a large class this year, it is taking the students a little longer to get used to all the people in the lab at one time. We will be doing some general typing practice so that they will be ready once it comes time to type Spelling and Reading word lists.

First graders and kindergarten students are just navigating a few new and revamped sites on their list of Favorites under their grades. Some games are the old and familiar ones, while there are some new ones to challenge them.

I hope to see any and all students with their parents on Open House Night, September 27th. Stop into the lab and have your students show you where they sit and how to log on and off the lab computers!

Well, another year has started. Can you believe how fast the time goes by?

This year I will once again be teaching Religion to Grade 8 Room 18. Our Religion book covers the history of the church, which is pretty interesting. There are many things we do today, that were done at the beginning of our church's time.

We will also be giving more attention to Confirmation and all the projects that are to be done before the 8th graders are confirmed. Some time may be given in class to work on these assignments, but most should be done at home so that the student and parents can discuss what that particular assignment means in their family. Some of the projects will also carry over to their computer class, so that modern technology can be used to make the assignment a bit more interesting.

My first day usually takes a full week to complete. Since I only see each class once per week, it takes a while to see all of them. Today I had the pleasure of meeting the 8th grade in room 18, (my Religion class) and the new kindergarten class (for a walk through the lab). Tomorrow the real schedule begins!

I look forward to working with all the students of our school, and welcome any new students! If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to call me at 708-425-1656, or send an email to srosellini@stlinusschool.org.
